Logging

Logging is the immediate destruction of the rainforest. Logging companies claim that they "select only a few mature trees to log." This, however does not make a difference. If you were to cut down one mature tree, the effect it would have on the upper canopy would be catastrophic. Not only would there be a great gap in the canopy, the logging companies would tear down vines, strangler figs, lanais and any plantlife over the roots. But this is only one. Imagine this happening a hundred times over, in the same area. As you can see, this would impact the animals also. Unfortunately, many people do not know this and the demand for rainforest products like teak, mahogany and rosewood (you should avoid these woods; there is a very good chance the product you are buying has been logged in the way stated above,) is as high as usual, which is not good at all. One and a half acres of rainforest are lost every second with tragic consequences for both developing and industrial countries.
